MWC2017: Xiaomi introduce its first mobile CPU, the Xiaomi Surge S1

Xiaomi unveiled the Surge S1, its first mobile processor for its future generations of phones. After 2 years of design, we can finally discover the Xiaomi's mid-range mobile CPU.

-Xiaomi Surge S1, the midrange master processor:

For its processor, Xiaomi did not intend to compete with the high-end Mobile CPU such as the Snapdragon 835. This new processor is rather in direct competition with the Snapdragon 625 for the mid-range, but expect to surpass it.

Therefore, it is equipped with 4 cores A-53 running at 2.2 GHZ and 4 cores A53 clocked at 1.4 GHz. the 4 most powerful cores being overclocked compared to the 625 (2.2 GHz against 2 GHz), Xiaomi can already give better performances for its chip in the benchmark

The processor is not the only important part of the mobile. Regarding the GPU, the Chinese manufacturer has decided to integrate the 4 cores Mali-T860 chip, the particularity of which is to offer the same performance as its previous generation but with a 40% decrease in energy consumption. Again, facing the Adreno 506 of the 625, it emerged victorious:

The SoC is also composed of other modules like the photo processing chip or the audio processing chip, but the most important for Xiaomi is undoubtedly the development of the modem. Xiaomi puts forward the total control that the brand will have on the development of the modem. it will be able to update the firmware of its smartphones and add features like VoLTE.

-Release date:

The Xiaomi Surge S1 has been in development for 28 months, but the massive production began in December 2016. The Chinese announces an immediate availability and already integrates this processor to the Xiaomi Mi 5c.
