Google will Close its Previous Versions of Drive!

Yesterday, Google has announced the closure of older versions of its Google Drive application on Android and iOS. For security purposes.

Launched in 2012, Google Drive is one of the most famous cloud file storage and synchronization services, it also offers office tools such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slide. However, the company noticed that its users do not keep their app up to date, either for reasons of functionality that disappear, interface that changes or simply a version not compatible with their older OS.

Actually, installing updates is the best way to protect against security breaches or targeted attacks on an application. To encourage their users to upgrade their Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slide application, Google announced that older versions of these applications will no longer be functional starting April 3rd. Therefore when users open their older apps they will be forced to update by following a link shown in their applications.

This closure concerns:

·        Google Drive for Android (up to version 2.4.311)
·        Google Docs for Android (up to 1.6.292)
·        Google Sheets for Android (up to 1.6.292)
·        Google Slides for Android (up to 1.6.292)
