Chinese supercomputer exascale prototype for 2017
China aims to develop an exascale supercomputer this year. Nevertheless, it will be first a prototype.
China expects to develop an exascale supercomputer and propose a prototype by the end of this year 2017, reports the Xinhua news agency. A future monster that can be exploited for Cloud Computing and Big Data applications. With a performance of more than billion of billion operations per second ... there is plenty to do.
However, a prototype certainly does not mean that the exaflopic power will be reached by a Chinese supercomputer this year. This is a system that will probably take several years to complete.
In the TOP500 ranking of supercomputers published in November, the Chinese supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight (picture above) which remained in first place with a computing power of 93 petaflops.
